Video: Gridlock on Achimota-Pokuase road as truck catches fire

Firefighters swiftly responded to distress calls as the fire incident resulted in a "heavy vehicular traffic on the main and outer roads leading to Nsawam"

A cargo truck fully loaded with eggs went up in flames on the main Accra – Nsawam road near Ofankor barrier late Thursday evening (12 May) causing a major gridlock, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said in a Facebook alert.

Firefighters swiftly responded to distress calls as the fire incident resulted in a “heavy vehicular traffic on the main and outer roads leading to Nsawam,” the notice said.

“Commuters and vehicles locked up on the affected stretch of the main and outer roads are implored to exercise patience as firefighters work assiduously to bring the situation under control,” the GNFS post added.

The road was subsequently blocked by security personnel to prevent other vehicles from approaching the fire scene, an eyewitness told Asaaseradio.com.

Firefighters are yet to establish the cause of the fire.
