Final day of voting in Ghana School of Law SRC elections underway

The two-day election started on Tuesday, 29 April 2025, on all four campuses of the Ghana School of Law (GSL)

Students of the Ghana School Law (GSL), the only institution authorized by law to train legal professionals in the country, are voting today, Wednesday, 30 April 2025, to elect the next Student Representative Council (SRC) president for the 2025/2026 academic year.

The two-day election started on Tuesday, 29 April 2025, on all four campuses of the Ghana School of LawGSL: Accra Main (Makola), UPSA, Greenhill, and KNUST.

The polls will close at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, 30 April 2025, and the ballot papers will be counted at the various campuses. The results will then be collated at the Accra Main campus, and the results will be declared there.

Over 2,300 students drawn from part 1, part 2, and post-call are expected to vote to elect the SRC president and officers for all the other positions: vice presidents for Greenhill, Accra Main, UPSA, and KNUST campuses, general secretary, organising secretary, and treasurer. The students will also vote to elect five congressmen and women for each campus.

Presidential race

Five people are contesting for the position of SRC president. They are Michael Obiri-Adjei (ObiriCares), who is said to have obtained the highest score among all the candidates after the vetting process, Benjamin Ofei-Addo (Solutions That Matter), Festus Tetteh Matey (Team Work), Emmanuella Tetteh Ashong (Ɔbaa no), the only female in the contest, and Nana Opoku Ware (The Time is NOW), who the polls predict is likely to win the presidential election.

Polls

A scientific survey conducted by the CK Analytics Team on the Ghana School of Law (GSL) Students Representative Council (SRC) elections identified Nana Opoku Ware (NOW) as the preferred candidate for SRC president among the five contestants.

The survey (2nd edition) sampled about 309 respondents, 12 percent of the voter population. It was carried out from Monday, 14 to Wednesday, 16 April 2025, and the sample size was taken from all four campuses of the Ghana School of Law: Accra Main, UPSA, Greenhill, and Kumasi, KNUST.

“The result of this month’s survey (14 to 16 April) shows that Nana Opoku Ware has crashed the commanding lead of Festus Matey, in the first edition of the CK Analytics survey, while Obiri-Adjei Michael and Benjamin Offei-Addo have gained significant grounds as well, with Emmanuella Tetteh-Ashong, who joined late, not doing badly.

“Overall, 26% of respondents indicated that they are likely to vote for Nana Opoku Ware. Festus Matey had 22%, Obiri-Adjei Michael had 15%, Benjamin Offei-Addo, had 12%, and Emmanuella Tetteh-Ashong had 6%.

“However, a significant number of respondents (28%) chose ‘None’, which is similar to the number of respondents (30%) who indicated that they may not vote at all,” the survey findings read.

“Therefore, if those who selected “None” are excluded from the results, this is how things will look: first, Nana Opoku Ware – 32%, second, Festus Matey – 27%, third, Obiri-Adjei Michael – 18%, fourth, Benjamin Offei-Addo – 15%, and fifth, Emmanuella Tetteh-Ashong – 8%.

“Nana Opoku Ware is likely to win UPSA (31%) and KNUST (62%), while Festus Matey is likely to win Makola Main (38%) and GIMPA (38%),” the survey results further indicated.

Other positions

The findings of the CK Analytics survey also showed that the following aspirants are likely to secure seats on the next SRC Executive Council. Jackson Bright Kitanya-Dabanyi is tipped to win for the treasurer position with about 63% of the vote.

The Organiser role will likely go to Gloria Agbele, who may secure about 74% of the votes to be cast. For the General Secretary position, Nana Aba Kwesenuwa Odoom is on course to secure about 91% “Yes Votes” to give her a historic win.

Vice presidential race

For the role of Vice President, KNUST, Samuel Addai is likely to poll 79% of the votes to be cast, Vice President for UPSA, Maame Ekua Otenewa Oduro (55%), Vice President, GIMPA, Hariratah Ibrahim Doudu (54%).

The Vice-Presidential race at Makola Main promises to be very competitive as Janelle Nhyira Amo Frimpomaa polled 38%, Ruby Charlene Opoku secured 32%, and Don Emmanuel Agbanyo polled 22%, leaving the race very open.

Gender balance

If the CK Analytics survey is anything to go by, it suggests that the majority of the 2025/2026 Executive Council of the GSL SRC (5 out of 8 positions) will be female, representing 63%, as compared to only one female in the 2024/2025 Executive Council.
