Upper West : Duong bone-setting centre in dire need of support

The facility is housed in a three-room structure erected by the late President Jerry John Rawlings. It contains a treatment area with two benches and a bed used as a couch.

Duong, a farming community with over 3000 inhabitants in the Upper West Region’s Nadowli-kaleo district, is a historic settlement with a low-budget bone-setting center.

The facility is housed in a three-room structure erected by the late President Jerry John Rawlings. It contains a treatment area with two benches and a bed used as a couch.

Another facility that serves as accommodation was provided by their former MP and current Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

According to Gabriel Gyan, the facility’s spokesperson, they require assistance in order to offer enough patient housing.

Patients sit on a mat to be treated. By the mat is usually a broken piece of a calabash which has a black substance that is all they rob on those who had come for review.

14-years in a wheelchair, story of Gabriel

42-year-old, Gabriel Kweku Gyan was run over by a fuel tanker in front of his house at Wenchi in the Bono East region.

His dream was to become an agriculturalist and was so close to achieving that, until he had a life-threatening accident at age 28.

With his spinal cord broken, pelvic bones shattered and no sign of life in his legs, he was left bed ridden for years.

His eyes almost moved to tears he shared the sad story of how he ended up here at Duong and not the United Kingdom where he was to read his masters in Agricultural Technology program.

It’s been 15 years since, and Gabriel now calls the centre, home.
