Henry Quartey: Decision to use Agbogbloshie land for Agenda 111 hospital is the best

On 1 July this year, the Greater Accra Regional Minister moved traders engaged in “bulk breaking” activities in and around the Central Business District (CBD) of Accra to Adjen Kotoku

Henry Quartey, the Greater Accra Regional Minister has said President Akufo-Addo’s decision to site Agenda 111 hospital in Agbogbloshie is the best thing that could happen to a society.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (22 October) Quartey said, “On Agenda 111, it couldn’t have been a better place, come to think of it, if you think about the movement of people around the area…

“About 500,000 people all go to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, so siting an Agenda 111 hospital on a land that for over 25 years have been occupied by people doing businesses but of course in a very challenging environment; I think that Mr President’s decision to site Agenda 111 hospital there is the best thing that could happen to a society. So indeed, not just reclaiming the land but it is going to benefit society more than it used to be and I commend the government for that.”

Humane environment

The minister said onion sellers in Adjen Kotoku are now operating in a very humane environment.

He said, “Compared to where they were health-wise, now they are operating in a very humane environment. I think that a government could have done better than what we have done. But there are few issues with the area and we are dealing with that.”
