Ghana begins feasibility studies into production of COVID-19 vaccines

Meanwhile, Ghana is receiving support from Germany to conduct feasibility studies into the production of COVID-19 vaccines in the country, Christoph Retzlaff, the German ambassador has confirmed.

Already, some global German pharmaceutical firms have begun various projects with local firms towards realising the goal.

“Germany is supporting Ghana to do feasibility studies on vaccine production in Ghana. Leading Global German Pharmaceutical companies are also starting cooperation projects,” Retzlaff tweeted.

Africa currently imports 99% of all its vaccines and it is hoping to reduce imports to around 40% by 2040.

The continent is also hoping to seek guidance from countries like India and Brazil on how they developed their generic pharmaceutical industries.
