Black Princesses look to fine-tune for Tanzania clash at African Games

Head coach, Yussif Basigi, has said the team is going deploy the best tactical strategy against Tanzania

Ghana’s U-20 Women’s National Team, the Black Princesses, are setting their sights on a more polished performance when they face Tanzania on Tuesday (12 March), in the 13th African Games.

The match will take place at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Head coach Yussif Basigi addressed the media ahead of the crucial group stage encounter. While acknowledging the challenge Tanzania’s physicality presents, Basigi expressed confidence in his team’s tactical approach.

“We are going into the game against Tanzania to play better than our first game,” Basigi stated. “It is not always easy to play the first match at home in front of your home fans.”

Basigi highlighted the importance of analysing Tanzania’s tactics: “We have seen them play, and we are going to deploy our tactical strategy as to how we are going to play. So it will not be easy playing with us.”

He acknowledged Tanzania’s physical edge but reassured fans, referencing a prior victory: “I know they are physical and taller than our players, but we know what it takes to play against a physically good side.”

“We played against Senegal in the World Cup qualifiers; they are a very good and a more stronger opponent, but tactically, we defeated them, so we know how to play against a stronger side.”

In a boost for the Black Princesses, coach Basigi confirmed the recovery of forward Mafia Nyame.

Nyame sustained an injury in the opening game against Ethiopia but participated in training and is cleared to play.

“Mafia is doing well,” Basigi reported. “Even though she had an injury in the opening match, but she trained this morning, and the medical team has assured us that she is fit and good to go.”
