Health Kiosk Project launched to enhance community healthcare

The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) Commissioner and Volta Region Representative, Dr Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, has praised traditional leaders for taking proactive steps in community development.

He emphasised that their initiatives can drive sustainable transformation.

Dr Apetorgbor made the commendation at Adidome in the Volta Region, where he served as chairman and special guest at the launch of the “Health Kiosk” Project. The facility provides regular vital checks to the community, facilitating early detection of conditions like hypertension and diabetes.

The NDPC Commissioner lauded Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V, Chief of Adidome and Executive Director of Wellness Bridge Initiative, for his bold initiative. He noted that the project aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s people-centered health policy, prioritizing community-based health delivery, preventive care, and early detection.

Dr Apetorgbor emphasised that health and development are interconnected, stating, “A healthy people form the bedrock of a productive economy. By ensuring early detection of hypertension, diabetes, and other silent conditions, this initiative places the well-being of the community at the center of our development efforts.”

The NDPC Commissioner urged development partners, philanthropists, and traditional authorities to support the Volta Region and encouraged traditional leaders to replicate such initiatives in their communities. “Let us light these small fires in our communities – for when each of our stools rises in unity and purpose, the whole region shall glow with development,” he urged.

The Health Kiosk initiative, a project of Wellness Bridge Initiative (WBI), aims to deliver preventive health services directly to the community, including market vendors, hawkers, okada drivers, pedestrians, and the community at large. The WBI project operates on four strategic pillars, including encouraging community members to check their blood pressure and sugar levels and make lifestyle changes in nutrition and fitness.
