Fire guts Sakumono School Complex

An early Thursday morning fire swept through the Kindergarten section of the Sakumono School Complex

Fire has consumed parts of the Sakumono School Complex in the Tema Metropolitan area in the early hours of Thursday, eyewitnesses told Asaaseradio.com.

Officials are yet to establish the cause of the fire.

However, a security man at the school, Samuel Tete, told Asaaseradio.com that the fire started from the meter section of the building.

“Around 4am this morning, I saw there was fire coming out from the meter section of the building, so I called the Fire Service several times, by the time they came around everything has been burnt,” Tete said.

“That is our Kindergarten block, their books and their furniture, everything was burnt,” the security guard added.

Officials from the Ghana Fire Service have managed to douse the inferno, preventing it from spreading to other classrooms.

Odawna incident

Today’s fire at Sakumono is coming barely 24 hours after a similar incident at the Odawna Pedestrian Market, destroying properties running into thousands of Ghana Cedis.

Close to 90 stalls have been razed down by the fire, another eyewitness said.

Market fires are rife in Ghana, especially in the nation’s capital and Kumasi, the country’s second-largest city.

Though the cause of these fires is not known immediately, many have blamed poor electrical circuit installations as the major cause of these fires.
