The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana must publish detailed polling station results for all elections on its website prior to the deadline for filing election petitions, the European Union election observer mission (EOM) to Ghana has suggested.
The EU is also demanding clear procedures for presiding officers, returning officers and regional collation officers to be stipulated on how to proceed in cases of irregularities during elections.
According to the EU, the procedures should comprise the counting and collation process, including “over-voting, mismatched reconciliation, incomplete and wrongly filled in result forms”.
These were part of an 18-point recommendation by the EU election observer mission to help improve elections after the 7 December 2020 polls.
It further described the Supreme Court verdict on the 2020 election petition as reliable, stating that it will in the coming days meet with various stakeholders to kickstart debate on the proposed reforms.
