Amma Busia, a member of the Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party has stated that the Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is more than qualified to lead the party into the 2024 elections.

According to her, Bawumia has been exemplary and loyal to the NPP and the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, making him the best choice as presidential candidate for the 2024 polls.

“Dr Bawumia is more than qualified to lead the NPP in 2024. The young man is a gem,” she said on Okyeman TV.

Busia said Bawumia has been formidable in the party, government and keeps playing a crucial role in addressing the needs of Ghanaians.

A gem

Describing Dr Bawumia as a gem, Busia said she holds the vice-president in high esteem.

“That young man (Dr Bawumia) is a gem. I hold Dr Bawumia in high esteem and have unwavering faith in him,” she said.

The sister of late Prime Minister, Kofi Abrefa Busia, recounted how she initially opposed the choice of Dr Bawumia as running mate to then candidate Akufo-Addo.

However, she said his “demeanour, determination, dedication and competence” changed her mind, resulting in the warm welcome she gave to him.

“Dr Bawumia has paid his dues to the New Patriotic Party,” she said, recalling that she asked President Akufo-Addo for forgiveness for ever opposing the vice-presidential candidature of Dr Bawumia in 2008.

“I told President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that if I ever opposed his selection of Dr Bawumia as running mate, he should please forgive me,” she said.
