Allotey Jacobs: I’ve resigned from NDC, I support Akufo-Addo

Outspoken National Democratic Congress (NDC) member Allotey Jacobs says he is now an ardent supporter of Nana Akufo-Addo

A former Central Regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has publicly stated that he is no longer a member of the opposition party.

Jacobs has been suspended from the party since May 2020 for “persistent anti-party conduct,” according to a letter signed by NDC national chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.

It is, however, not clear if he had formally written to the party about his decision.

Revisiting the issue on Wednesday, Jacobs said he has resigned from the Umbrella Family because he now supports President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo due to his “unprecedented leadership” style.

“Kwami (referring to broadcaster Kwame Sefa Kayi) I have resigned from the NDC,” Jacobs told the Peace FM morning show host.

Unprecedented leadership

“I am no longer part of the National Democratic Congress. President Akufo-Addo is providing the kind of leadership that is unprecedented in our recent history, and that’s how come I have quit the NDC,” he added.

Jacobs also praised the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) under the leadership of Akufo-Addo for transforming the economy amid COVID-19 pandemic.

According to him, he is not crossing carpet to the NPP but he will continue to tout the achievements of the Akufo-Addo government.

Last week, Jacobs served notice he will never return to the NDC even if his suspension is lifted.

In an interview with Oti-based Radio Safari, he said, “I will never join that party again. I’m even old, I’m getting to 70 years. God has been merciful to me, so why should I worry myself?”
