Airbus scandal: If you’re a man, come for interrogation, Amidu dares Mahama

Martin Amidu has challenged former President John Mahama to voluntarily submit himself to his office for probe over the Airbus saga

Martin Amidu, the Special Prosecutor, has dared former President John Mahama to “man-up” and come to his office to prove his innocence in the Airbus bribery scandal.

Mahama in a recent public outburst described Amidu’s conclusion that he is elected Government Official 1 in the Airbus scandal as sheer “stupidity”.

“Amidu goes and presents Agyapa investigations and I thought he was a man enough. They say investigate Agyapa, so present a report on Agyapa. If you have investigated Airbus present a report on Airbus. In the Agyapa report, you know that it is going to be damning of this government and so you go and put one paragraph there about airbus. Nobody asked you about Airbus,” Mahama stated.

He added: “If you were man enough present Agyapa and do a report on Airbus separately and then I will come and answer you on Airbus. If you think I am indicted on Airbus accuse me directly. But because he is a coward and they knew Agyapa was going to be discussed today, so he put a paragraph on Airbus to equalize the discussion. What stupidity is this?”

However, in his first official response to the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Special Prosecutor said Mahama should stop playing in the public gallery and be brave enough to come with his own lawyers to face him (Amidu).

“Your excellent, the Wise and the brave former president John Dramani Mahama, man-up, wise up, and be brave in enough to come with two lawyers of your own choice to be cautioned and interrogated by this office to demonstrate your valour and wisdom as not being elected Government Official 1 and also as not being the first guarantor to Samuel Adam Mahama’s passport application,” Amidu said in a statement on Monday.

He added: “Your excellent, the Wise and the brave former president John Dramani Mahama if you really assert that there is no piece of evidence showing that you are elected Government Official 1 why do you not simply voluntarily come to be cautioned, be interrogated and confronted with the evidence against you as elected Government Official 1.”
