Ghanaian socialite and musician, Mona Faiz Montrage, widely known as Hajia4Reall or Mona 4Reall, is expected to be released from the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia on Wednesday (22 May 2025) after serving a custodial sentence of one year and one day for her role in a romance scam scheme.
But while her release marks the end of her physical incarceration, her legal and financial obligations are far from over. As part of her sentencing, Hajia4Reall is required to pay US$1,387,458 in restitution to approximately 40 victims she defrauded between 2013 and 2019.
The scheme, according to US prosecutors, involved elaborate online cons, including fabricated stories about gold shipments, fake FBI investigations, and assisting a fictitious US Army officer in recovering supposed funds from Afghanistan.
She initially pleaded guilty to conspiring to receive stolen funds in February 2024. At the time, she agreed to pay a restitution and forfeiture amount of US$2,164,758.41. However, the final judgement in June 2024 revised the restitution figure to US$1,387,458, with an additional forfeiture of US$216,475 representing direct proceeds from the fraud.
In addition to the restitution and forfeiture, the court sentenced her to three years of supervised release, during which her activities will be closely monitored. US authorities and their partners are expected to keep a close watch to ensure full compliance.
Popular blogger Ebenezer Donkoh, sharing the development on Facebook, noted that the US government remains committed to holding her accountable throughout the supervision period.
Hajia4Reall’s case has drawn wide attention both locally and internationally, highlighting the consequences of online fraud and the growing scrutiny around digital deception and financial crimes.
