Parliament approves Justice Torkornoo as Chief Justice

President Nana Akufo-Addo nominated Justice Torkornoo in April 2023 to succeed Justice Kwesi Anin-Yeboah, who retired from the position on 24 May.

Parliament has approved the nomination of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo as the Chief Justice of Ghana after the Appointments Committee unanimously endorsed her nomination following her vetting on 26 May 2023.

President Nana Akufo-Addo nominated Justice Torkornoo in April 2023 to succeed Justice Kwesi Anin-Yeboah, who retired from the position on 24 May.

The chairman of the committee and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, in presenting the report to the house said the new head of the judiciary has an enviable professional track record.

He added that Torkornoo has demonstrated a clear understanding of Ghana’s judicial system and the challenges confronting that arm of government.

President Nana Akufo-Addo will swear her into office in the coming days.
