GTEC to CAGD: Freeze July salaries of striking CETAG members

Indefinite Strike/Operational Allowance/NIA PWSU

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has directed the controller and accountant general’s department to stop paying the July 2024 salaries of all teaching staff in the Colleges of Education, except for the college principals.

This decision comes in response to an ongoing strike by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), which began in June.

The strike is a protest against the government’s delay in implementing the National Labour Commission’s (NLC) arbitral award orders and negotiated service conditions.

In a letter dated Monday, 22 July, GTEC stated, “At the request of the Minister of Education, due to CETAG members not ending their strike since June 2024, you are instructed to stop the salaries of all teaching staff in the Colleges of Education, except for the College Principals, for July 2024.”

The letter also told college principals not to approve the July 2024 salaries of all teaching staff.
