Your letter to me contains falsehoods, deception and propaganda, Amidu replies Presidency

Former Special Prosecutor Martin Alamisi Amidu has responded to comments by the Presidency after Akufo-Addo accepted his resignation

Martin Amidu says President Akufo-Addo’s response to him contains falsehoods, public deceptions and spinning propaganda which needs to be debunked.

“The letter the President directed and instructed you to write to me personally was hand-delivered to me in my resident at 7 am in the forenoon of 18 November 2020.

“A number of introductory falsehoods, public deceptions and spinning propaganda are manifest from the President’s letter to me personally which need to be debunked as preliminary matters in this response of mine to the President before I address the other issues intended by the President to assassinate my character for simply exposing the true nature of the off-shore Jersey incorporated Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions in my professional anti-corruption assessment report,” Amidu said in his response.

Martin Amidu resigned as the Special Prosecutor after over two years in office.

In a letter to President Akufo-Addo earlier, Amidu suggested that the president has not been able to ensure his independence and freedom of action.

He said, “My position as the Special Prosecutor has consequently become clearly untenable.”

Martin Amidu said his decision is to enable his appointing authority “to take steps to appoint a replacement to that position as required by law.”

“This is to inform the public that I resigned from my position as the Special Prosecutor of the Office of the Special Prosecutor with immediate effect upon the submission of my letter of resignation with reference number OSP/2/AM/14 dated 16th November 2020 which was received at the Office of the President at 15:15 HRS this afternoon,” he said in his letter to the president.

“The one condition upon which I accepted to be nominated as the Special Prosecutor when you invited me to your Office on 10 January 2018 was your firm promise to me that you will respect and ensure same by your Government for my independence and freedom of action as the Special Prosecutor,” Amidu’s resignation letter stated.
