Green Ghana: Railway ministry embarks on tree planting along railway stations
The initiative forms part of the ministries support for this years Green Ghana Day which was aimed at planting 20 million trees across the country
John Peter Amewu, the minister of railways development has embarked on a tree planting exercise along some stations of the Tema – Mpakadan railway project.

Speaking to journalist after the exercise on Friday (10 June) Amewu said “What is important about this initiative is that we are planting more trees and as the minister said we are planting 20 million trees.”
“In line with the vision of the minster of lands and the President, my ministry together with the contractors, the consultants , workforce decided to plant trees along our railway stations, we have eight stations along the stop, the intention is to plant trees all along the stations as part of the Green Ghana project, he said.
“What is important about planting along the railway stations , is that there are going to be permanent workers and these workers will be expected to maintain the trees, we intend to plant along the lines,” Amewu added.
Target
Statistics shows that the country has lost some 100,000 arches of natural forest in the last decade alone.
The target of the Green Ghana day 2022 is to plant at least 20 million trees on the Green Ghana day which is slated for today Friday, 10 June 2022.
The Green Ghana initiative seeks to; Create enhanced national awareness on the necessity for collective action towards restoration of degraded landscape in the country, inculcate in youth the value of planting and nurturing trees and their associated benefits, mitigate watershed, enhance livelihoods towards communities through engagement in the production of trees seedlings and beautify our communities and environment.
