President Bola Tinubu: Illegal mining linked to terrorist financing

President Tinubu highlighted Nigeria's efforts to bolster counter-terrorism capabilities

Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu has said illegal mining can be linked to terrorist financing.

Addressing a High-Level Counter Terrorism meeting in Abuja on Monday (22 April), Tinubu said, “Those who think illegal mining has no connection with financing terrorism are sorely mistaken.”

The two-day summit (22-23 April) in Abuja aimed to establish a fully operational Regional Counter-Terrorism Centre and bolster intelligence sharing.

Tinubu highlighted Nigeria’s efforts to bolster counter-terrorism capabilities through legislation and the establishment of the National Counter Terrorism Centre.

Tinubu highlighted the complex challenge facing Africa as it grapples with the evolving tactics used by terrorist organisations to continuously finance and re-equip themselves.

He called for international cooperation and strengthened regional mechanisms to combat the menace.

Tinubu also outlined the importance of a Regional Standby Force and an African Union Ministerial Committee on Counter-Terrorism.
