Government pays GHS6 billion to DDEP bondholders

President John Dramani Mahama/Supreme Court of Ghana/Prisoner amnesty

President John Mahama has directed the Ministry of Finance to clear outstanding Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) coupons while bolstering the country’s financial buffer through the Sinking Fund.

In compliance with this directive, the Ministry of Finance on Monday (17 February), disbursed a Payment-In-Cash (PIC) coupon of GHS6.081 billion to all DDEP bondholders.

Additionally, a Payment-In-Kind (PIK) portion of GHS3.46 billion has been credited to bondholders’ securities accounts, in accordance with the DDEP Memorandum.

To reinforce Ghana’s debt management framework, the government has also allocated GHS9.7 billion into the Debt Service Recovery Cedi Account (Sinking Fund). This reserve will act as a financial cushion for the next five DDEP coupon payments scheduled for July and August 2025.

President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to honoring all obligations under the DDEP while working to restore investor confidence in the economy.

He further indicated that the forthcoming 2025 Budget Statement will introduce additional measures to enhance fiscal discipline, prioritize spending, and improve transparency in public financial management.

Despite the economic hurdles inherited from the previous administration, the government remains focused on stabilizing the cedi, controlling inflation, and creating jobs.

Through prudent fiscal policies, the Mahama-led administration aims to restore macroeconomic stability and ensure accountability in public spending.
