Gnani: Maternal mortality high due to lack of midwives

Residents of Gnani in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern Region are appealing to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to reopen the only clinic serving the community to save lives.

The facility, which serves a population of over 4,000 has remained closed for close to two months, according to Asaase News checks.

Local officials told Asaase News there are no health personnel, particularly midwives to run the clinic, forcing pregnant women in labour to seek medical attention elsewhere; some losing their babies in the process.
