Globe Productions to premiere 20th bold stage play, “Ghana Must Go,” on 24 May

The play was officially launched at the Pelican Hotel in Accra on Wednesday (14 May 2025), with a premiere scheduled for 24th and 25th of May 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC)

Award-winning Ghanaian playwright Latif Abubakar and his theatre company, Globe Productions, have unveiled their 20th stage production titled “Ghana Must Go,” with a promise to use the play as a springboard to promote Ghana’s creative economy to a global audience.

The play was officially launched at the Pelican Hotel in Accra on Wednesday (14 May 2025), with a premiere scheduled for 24th and 25th of May 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

Described as a bold and strategic addition to Ghana’s cultural export, Ghana Must Go forms part of two national initiatives The Big Push Ghana Project and The Black Star Experience which aim to project Ghana as a destination for heritage, hospitality, and innovation.

Delivering the keynote address at the launch, Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, commended Globe Productions for its consistent efforts in elevating Ghanaian theatre.

She stressed the need for collective support for the arts, stating that the play aligns with the Ministry’s vision of using culture as a tool for economic transformation.

“Theatre is not just entertainment; it is a soft power that can tell our stories, influence perception, and drive investment,” the Minister noted.

Playwright Latif Abubakar told guests that Ghana Must Go is not only a celebration of two decades of storytelling but a leap toward merging art with economic development.

“Through the play ‘Ghana Must Go’, the ministry aims to tell a uniquely Ghanaian story that will inspire, educate, and capture audiences across continents.

“We’re leveraging Ghana’s rich cultural heritage to drive tourism and investment through immersive theatre. Our goal is to position Ghana as a premier destination for tourism and investment in Africa.

“To achieve this, we need your support. Attend and promote our events, such as the ‘Ghana Must Go’ play, to your families, communities, and business networks. Let’s work together to showcase Ghana’s rich culture and heritage to the world,” she said.

Abubakar also announced plans for an international tour, with upcoming performances in Kenya, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the USA, UK, Canada, Nigeria, and South Africa. This follows a successful outing in Madrid, Spain, where a previous production was staged to a packed audience that included 29 ambassadors.

Present at the launch were high-profile personalities including the President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour,  and Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Abeiku Aggrey Santana.
