Ghana’s youngest lawyer, Nana Dankwa Edjei Domson, has urged the country’s legal institutions to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into the study and practice of law to keep pace with global innovation.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show, the 21-year-old lawyer said AI is reshaping industries across the world and the legal sector must not be left behind.
“AI is the future,” he said. “We are gradually getting there, but I believe we can do better. The storm is coming.”
Domson, who was called to the Bar exactly a week ago, highlighted the emergence of platforms such as Kwame AI, a locally developed legal technology that assists students and practitioners in research and case management.
He commended such efforts but insisted that the Ghana School of Law and other institutions must actively incorporate digital literacy and AI tools into their curricula.
According to him, understanding AI’s implications on commerce and law will be essential for the next generation of legal practitioners. “Commercial law and AI are the areas I want to specialise in because commerce runs the world, and this will give me the opportunity to impact society better,” he added.
Domson also underscored the need for the country to view AI as an enabler of justice delivery and efficiency, not as a threat to traditional legal systems.
“We can do better because the storm is coming,” he reiterated, calling on policymakers and educators to prepare the legal fraternity for the technological transformation ahead.
