Ghana’s U-12 boys’ tennis team began their 2024 ITF/CAT 12 & Under Teams’ Competition campaign in style, securing a comprehensive victory over Zimbabwe on Monday (7 October) at the National Tennis Centre in Gaborone, Botswana.
Under the guidance of coach Charles Abugbila, the team made a strong start, with Eric Torto delivering a thrilling comeback against Chamakh Zhuwakini.
Torto fought hard to claim a 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 win. In the second singles match, Jeff Frimpong comfortably defeated Unathi Carl Sithole 6-2, 6-0.
In the doubles, Frimpong partnered with Ethan Dzidzornu to complete the sweep, defeating Zimbabwe’s Munenyasha Mhlanga and Zhuwakini 6-3, 6-1, sealing Ghana’s dominance in their opening match.
The 2024 ITF/CAT 12 & Under Teams’ Competition, featuring 18 teams from 11 countries, will run until Sunday (13 October) as the young talents battle for continental supremacy.
