Ghana’s year-on-year inflation dropped significantly to 13.7% in June 2025, down from 18.4% in May, marking the sixth consecutive monthly decline and the lowest rate since December 2021, according to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).
Government Statistician, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, attributed the slowdown to a sharp drop in general price levels of food and other essential items. For the first time in months, Ghana recorded deflation of 1.2% from May to June, indicating that consumers paid less for goods and services in June.
“This downward inflationary trend over the last six months provides some consistency and assurance of real sustained shift in prices,” Dr. Iddrisu said.
Food inflation dropped by 6.5 percentage points to 16.3%, while non-food inflation eased to 11.4%, down by 3 points.
Regionally, the Upper West posted the highest inflation at 32.3%, driven by food and utility costs, while the Bono Region recorded the lowest at 8.4%.
Dr. Iddrisu emphasized the need to use more detailed regional data to address inflation disparities.
