Ghana water company restores water supply to Ho and its adjoining communities

The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has completed the repair works of the Kpeve headworks pump which broke down rendering residents hunt for water for other a month.

In a significant effort to restore water, the Volta regional minister, James Gunu who assumed office barely a week played a very crucial and a significant role in ensuring the swift completion of the repair works and restoring water supply from the Kpeve Headworks.

The minister visited the facility about 3 times with a collaborative effort from other key stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the challenge, which had affected residents, businesses, health facilities, food vendors, hospitality facilities, private and public institutions among others during the period.

Speaking to some residents after the water has been restored, they express their happiness to the regional minister and the management of the Ghana water company, but they are appealing for the procurement of new sets of machines to replace the old ones.

Information gathered by this reporter indicated that, a new pump head has been fixed at the Kpeve Headworks and hence restored supply to residents within the revival capital and its adjoining communities.

This is a step to end the challenge which has affected residents for over a month if hunting for water to survive

Checks shows that, water residents around Sorkode Lokoe, Datalink,and some parts of the municipality have started receiving a supply of water since yesterday Sunday ,9th February,2025 whiles others receive it today.

But some other communities are yet to have water flow through their taps at the time of filing this report.

Earlier interviews with the regional minister indicate that, the current challenge is meeting the increasing demands of customers, as the daily demand is 30,000 cubic meters, while the production capacity of the Kpeve Headworks is 11,000 cubic meters only.

According to the Volta regional minister James Gunu, about $52 million would cover the expansion cost of the facility to increase its production capacity to boost water supply to residents.

Meanwhile, the Volta regional minister James Gunu together with the regional chief manager is the Ghana water company Ing. Francis Larmtey visited Klefe where there is enough water in borehole which if mechanized can supply water to the Klefe township,other adjoining communities and parts of the Ho municipality.

Though the water is salty, the regional minister and the chief manager of the Ghana water company promised to bring experts who will come and access it for further actions to mechanize it.

Background

Since the beginning of the year 2025, residents in the Ho Municipality and some other districts have had to grabble for water as the Kpeve headworks water pump broke down intermittently resulting to water scarcity within the first week of January, this year.

Residents,have had to depend on water supply from private tankers who have also suddenly took advantage of the crisis to increase their water supply prices.
