Ghana Tourism Authority opens call for “December in GH” 2025 event proposals

Event organisers interested in being part of this prestigious campaign must submit detailed proposals no later than Monday, 16th June 2025

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has officially opened the call for event proposals for the highly anticipated 2025 edition of December in GH, the country’s flagship holiday-season tourism campaign that has become synonymous with culture, entertainment, and diaspora reconnection.

In a press release issued on Monday, the GTA—under the coordination of its International Affairs Secretariat—invited event organisers, promoters, and cultural curators from across the country and beyond to submit innovative and high-impact proposals for events scheduled between 1st December 2025 and 3rd January 2026.

Now in its sixth year, December in GH is the crown jewel of Ghana’s tourism calendar, drawing tens of thousands of visitors from across the globe, including the Ghanaian diaspora and the broader African diaspora reconnecting with their roots. The initiative aligns with the Black Star Experience, Ghana’s global cultural positioning strategy.

“December in GH is more than a festive celebration, it is a movement that showcases Ghana’s vibrant spirit to the world,” said Maame Efua Houadjeto, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority. “As we embrace the Black Star Experience, we are setting the stage for our biggest December season yet, and we look forward to innovative events that will elevate Ghana’s place as a leading destination for culture, entertainment, and heritage tourism.”

The month-long celebration features a diverse calendar of curated events across music, fashion, art, nightlife, and heritage tourism. Past editions have hosted major concerts, street carnivals, cultural showcases, art fairs, and food festivals that contribute significantly to Ghana’s economy and global image.

How to Participate

Event organisers interested in being part of this prestigious campaign must submit detailed proposals no later than Monday, 16th June 2025. All submissions will be reviewed by a GTA-appointed selection committee, with successful events featured on the official December in GH 2025 Calendar, to be launched later this year.

Proposals must reflect Ghana’s values of creativity, hospitality, inclusivity, and global appeal, and should be submitted via the official form at:

Speaking on the significance of the open call, Annabelle McKenzie, Director of the International Affairs Secretariat, said:

“We’re excited to work with event organisers who bring fresh ideas and energy to December in GH. It’s a time when the global diaspora comes home to experience Ghana—its culture, warmth, entertainment, food, and welcoming spirit. This year will have an even greater impact as we invite the world to be part of the Black Star Experience during one of the most vibrant times of the year.”

The GTA emphasised that December in GH is not just about entertainment, but also a vehicle for economic growth, job creation, and cultural diplomacy, reinforcing Ghana’s reputation as the “Gateway to Africa.” The campaign has also proven instrumental in driving investment in hospitality, transport, fashion, and creative sectors.

A Global Homecoming

First launched during the Year of Return in 2019 and followed by the Beyond the Return campaign, December in GH has grown into a globally recognized phenomenon. With an influx of celebrities, entrepreneurs, and diasporans arriving each year to partake in events from Accra to Kumasi, Cape Coast to Tamale, the campaign continues to position Ghana as Africa’s cultural capital during the holiday season.

This year’s edition promises to be the most inclusive and globally resonant yet, with the GTA encouraging a wide range of proposals—from grassroots community events to large-scale international showcases.

As preparations ramp up, the Ghana Tourism Authority has pledged its full support to selected organisers and affirmed its commitment to promoting Ghana as a year-round destination that peaks in December.
