Ghana is set to welcome President Petr Pavel of the Czech Republic for a three-day State Visit from 8 to 10 April 2025.
This marks the first visit by a Czech leader since diplomatic relations were established between Ghana and then-Czechoslovakia in October 1959.
The visit also holds special significance as it will be the first State Visit hosted by President John Dramani Mahama since his return to office in January 2025.
In a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications on Friday (4 April 2025), expressed optimism that the visit would yield tangible benefits for both countries.
Strengthening bilateral ties
During his stay, President Pavel will engage in high-level bilateral discussions with President Mahama, focusing on deepening cooperation in trade, investment, healthcare, and education.
The two leaders are expected to explore avenues for enhancing economic partnerships, particularly in sectors where the Czech Republic has demonstrated expertise, such as technology, manufacturing, and infrastructure development.
Key highlights of the visit
- Business Forum: President Pavel will address a business forum aimed at fostering stronger commercial ties between Ghanaian and Czech enterprises. The event will provide a platform for networking and exploring joint ventures.
- Health Facility Inauguration: The Czech leader will inaugurate a health facility funded by the Czech Republic, underscoring the country’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s healthcare sector.
- Cultural Engagement: President Pavel will tour significant historical sites, including the Osu Castle and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, highlighting the cultural and historical bonds between the two nations.
State dinner in honor of President Pavel
President Mahama will host a state dinner to honor his Czech counterpart, further solidifying the diplomatic and friendly relations between Ghana and the Czech Republic. The event will be attended by high-ranking government officials, business leaders, and members of the diplomatic corps.
This visit represents a pivotal moment in Ghana-Czech relations, reflecting the mutual desire to strengthen collaboration across various domains. It also reaffirms Ghana’s position as a key partner for European nations in Africa.
