Ghana Premier League: Clubs to meet GFA over obligations, details of BetPawa deal
Football clubs in the Ghana Premier League will meet with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to discuss details of its new sponsorship agreement with betting company, BetPawa.
On Wednesday, August 3, the Ghana Football Association announced a three-year sponsorship with the betting company as the league’s title sponsor at a ceremony in Accra. At the ceremony at the GFA’s headquarters at Ridge in Accra, the GFA disclosed that the three-year deal was worth $6million.
However, the country’s premier football governing body stopped short of disclosing how much of the $6 million would be paid to the clubs over the three-year period.
Asaase Sports understands the eighteen Ghana Premier League clubs are also yet to receive copies of the contract between the League and its new title sponsor, BetPawa.
There is however a yet-to-be-scheduled meeting to address this.
The GFA’s Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum confirmed this to Asaase Sports.
”We are planning to meet the Premier League clubs hopefully next week or the week after. We will make copies of the contract (available to the clubs) especially when it comes to their obligations or that of the GFA. We cannot do it without the involvement of the cooperation of these clubs”.
”So we will meet the clubs and make it known to them what the obligations are in terms of pitch panels, in terms of space on jerseys, brand visibility, making players available for photoshoots, television interactions, exposing our players, making them available for media engagements etc. All these are entailed in the contract” Henry Asante Twum disclosed on Asaase Radio’s Weekend Sports show, Team Talk.
The next season of the Ghana Premier League is expected to be begin in September.
