Ghana Health Service rolls out nationwide immunisation coverage survey from 16 June

The outcome of the survey is expected to highlight underserved populations, offer insights into service delivery challenges, and ultimately bolster disease prevention efforts nationwide

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) will from the 16th to the 30th of June 2025, conduct a nationwide immunisation coverage survey under its Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), targeting an estimated 1.3 million children under the age of five.

The survey seeks to assess how many children have received their routine childhood vaccines during visits to Child Welfare Clinics (CWCs), popularly referred to as “weighing,” and whether the vaccines were administered on schedule.

The data will help verify existing records, expose coverage gaps, and inform future planning and policy decisions at both national and regional levels.

Speaking to the media ahead of the exercise, the Programme Manager for EPI, Dr Selorm Kutsoati, said the initiative will generate reliable evidence on immunisation performance and support ongoing efforts to strengthen vaccine delivery systems across the country.

Her deputy, Dr Nazir Tanko Mohammed, called on caregivers and families to cooperate fully with the data collectors and supervisors to ensure a smooth and successful survey.

The exercise is being supported by PATH, UNICEF Ghana and the World Health Organisation (WHO), with technical guidance from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS). A total of 160 trained data collectors and 40 supervisors will undertake the house-to-house survey across all regions.

The outcome of the survey is expected to highlight underserved populations, offer insights into service delivery challenges, and ultimately bolster disease prevention efforts nationwide.
