The Ghana Health Service (GHS) will on Saturday (17 May 2025), launch a nationwide campaign aimed at encouraging over one million Ghanaians to check their blood pressure levels.
This initiative seeks to promote early detection, proper counselling, and medication management.
Patience Boahen, Health promotion manager at GHS headquarters in Accra, stated that a significant number of Ghanaians are unknowingly living with high blood pressure, emphasising the need for proactive health checks.
“Hypertension has become so much of a problem for us. A lot of people have it. What is worrying is that people have it [and] they are walking around and they are not even aware, so we want to create awareness. We are raising awareness about hypertension.
“So we want as many as we can get to come and check their BP and then direct them as to what to do so that those who are to risk of the disease, they would be better advised and manage by our doctors and the health stars,” Patience stated.
The Ghana health service urges all Ghanaians to take advantage of this campaign, visit nearby health facilities, and get their BP levels checked.
“Walk into any health facility close to you [and] get your BP checked,” she added.
The media is also encouraged to support the dissemination of this vital message to ensure public awareness and safety.
By launching this campaign, the GHS aims to reduce the prevalence of hypertension and promote a healthier lifestyle among Ghanaians.
