The Asaase Foundation will support the cost of dialysis treatment for at least two kidney patients including a child, the president Kojo Mensah said.
Handing over the second dialysis machine to the Bono Regional Hospital in Sunyani on Friday (12 August), Mensah said the foundation will support the beneficiaries for at least three months.
“We are trying to get two persons who are on dialysis machines that we can support for a period of at least three months at our cost,” he said.
The foundation has so far raised over GHC1 million to support individuals with kidney disease. Among leading sponsors of the Asaase Foundation are KGL Foundation, Ghana Water Company Ltd, Bank of Ghana, GO Energy, Ghana EXIM Bank and the Ghana Free Zones Authority.
Others are the National Petroleum Authority, National Lottery Authority, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Ghana Maritime Authority, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Consolidated Bank Ghana, Africa Legal Associates, the South African High Commissioner and Cynthia Adjei.
“It’s not my money, it’s donated money. So if there’s anybody, and again I’m going to be very strict – child, woman that’s it, who is undergoing dialysis treatment, we can support for at least three months of cost for treatments, then of course we want to do that,” Mensah added.

The Municipal chief executive for Sunyani East, Ansu Kumi, commended the Asaase Foundation for its timely intervention in handing over a kidney dialysis machine to the Bono Regional Hospital.
Speaking in an interview, Kumi said the dialysis machine has come at the right time.
“It has come at such a right time such that kidney related diseases are becoming so alarming. So once it has come here, it may even be possible that you need not wait for you to even be diagnosed with having this condition before you access the facility of this nature.
“And so I see it to be a very good thing that the municipality has had and of course the entire region. So on this note I will like to thank the Asaase Foundation so much for the assistance that it has offered the regional hospital,” the MCE said.
He said the dialysis machine will help reduce the high treatment cost of kidney disease as well as traveling expenses to major hospitals.
“Now that the centre is here, all those within the region, especially and of course we may even have some people from Côte d’Ivoire to come here and to get that kind of assistance. All these people will not have to travel to Kumasi or Accra to seek medical care.
“And when this happens, it has some implications. One is that the cost of even seeking medical care would reduce and it will even be easier to seek that assistance as well because this time around you don’t have to travel a long distance and seek such medical care,” he said.
