GCRI launches Ghana investment trade week to boost sector growth

The time had come for Ghana’s private sector to take a leading role in shaping the industry’s future and not on government policies

The Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry (GCCI) has officially launched the Ghana Investment Trade Week (GITW), an initiative aimed at fostering business partnerships and attracting investment into the country’s construction sector.

Speaking at the launch, Emmanuel Cherry, CEO of the GCCI, emphasized that the event will serve as a solution to some of the key challenges facing the industry in 2025. He noted that the time had come for Ghana’s private sector to take a leading role in shaping the industry’s future rather than relying solely on government policies.

“Leaving everything to government, if you are not very careful, Ghana may not be where you and I expect it to be. The private sector must rise. The time has come for us to come together and see what we can do to add to what government has put on the table,” Cherry stated.

Strategic Partnerships with Dubai to Drive Growth

As part of efforts to attract foreign investment, the Chamber has partnered with industry leaders from Dubai, a city globally recognized for its rapid development in construction and real estate. Cherry highlighted that technical expertise, financial sector partnerships, and real estate investments from Dubai will be instrumental in boosting Ghana’s construction sector.

> “Dubai has become Dubai today because of its thriving real estate sector. We also have the opportunities—Ghana has been blessed with vast arable lands. If we position ourselves well, we can replicate similar successes here,” he remarked.

The Chamber is keen on facilitating direct trade, investment promotion, and business matchmaking between Ghanaian firms and their international counterparts. The initiative aims to connect local businesses with global players who have successfully transformed their economies through infrastructure development and real estate expansion.

Financial Sector Reforms Key to Unlocking Investment

A major challenge facing Ghana’s construction industry, according to Cherry, is the lack of financial policies tailored to support private sector growth. He pointed out that Ghana must learn from economies that have successfully attracted investment by creating market-friendly financial environments.

> “The financial sector remains a challenge. Our financial policies are not well-tailored to private sector business groups. We need to open our doors to the ‘big guys’ who have succeeded before us, learn from them, and establish the right financial frameworks,” he explained.

The Ghana Investment Trade Week will include a series of business networking sessions, investment summits, and trade linkages aimed at strengthening local and international collaboration in the construction and real estate sectors.

With Ghana seeking to position itself as a hub for construction and real estate investment, industry stakeholders are optimistic that such initiatives will help unlock new growth opportunities, drive job creation, and elevate the country’s infrastructure landscape to international standards.
