Ongoing military operations around the country code named Operation Halt II have resulted in the destruction of notable quantities of illegal mining equipment by the Ghana Armed Forces, the latest being in the Western Region.

Throughout Saturday 15 May 2021, military personnel commenced phase three of their operations from Subin to Diaso, through Bibiani to Akwamuso.
The land patrols component patrolled along the northern banks of River Offin from Subin while the riverine team patrolled upstream on the River Offin through the same route.
The operation resulted in the team destroying 12 “changfan” machines, ten platforms, 11 wooden structures and two generator plants.

According to Asaase News sources within the military command who are familiar with the operation, the troops after their operation spent the night at Antwi Adjei Nkwanta Junction and they are scheduled to continue with their activities on Sunday morning (16 May).
“Phase three of Operation HaltT II in the Western Region is progressing steadily without any problems and we are committed to our rules of engagement, which is to stop galamsey along the nations river bodies,” the sources told Asaase News.
