Gabby applauds Govt for strengthening cedi, hails Bawumia’s gold4forex policy

Prominent lawyer and political strategist urges national unity as cedi appreciates, says “Ghana wins, the people win

Prominent Ghanaian lawyer and political strategist, Gabby Otchere-Darko, has publicly lauded the government for the recent strengthening of the Ghanaian cedi, crediting it to the gold-for-forex policy introduced by former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Otchere-Darko reflected on the earlier backlash he faced for highlighting the poor state of the currency in the lead-up to the December 7 elections. Now, with the cedi regaining strength, he expressed optimism about the trajectory of Ghana’s economy and the broader impact of the policy.

“Long may the trend of a stronger cedi continue,” he wrote. “Today, the Bawumia Formula of Gold for Forex has become the gold standard, so to speak.”

He further noted that other African countries, including Namibia, are adopting the strategy, reinforcing its potential across the continent.

Gabby emphasized that the strengthening cedi could provide long-term benefits, such as job creation and economic prosperity, if the trend holds. He called on Ghanaians to rise above partisan politics and support sound economic management for the benefit of all.

“Let us get to the stage where we elevate our  to not praying for your failure as the only route to my success, but where I can show that I can do better than your best,” he stated. “In the end, Ghana wins. The people win.”
