Ga Mantse meets King Charles III at Commonwealth Day

The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, held a brief but high-profile meeting with King Charles III during the 2026 Commonwealth Day celebrations in London on 8 March.

The encounter, captured in official footage, saw the two monarchs exchange pleasantries and highlighted Ghana’s traditional leadership on the international stage.

The event, hosted by Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, who recently assumed office as Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, brought together dignitaries from across the Commonwealth.

Among those present were Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland Sabah Zita Benson, and the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, with his queen, Olori Ivie Atuwatse.

The Ga Mantse’s participation underscores the growing role of traditional authorities in cultural diplomacy and international engagement.

It also provides an opportunity to promote Ghana’s heritage and strengthen bilateral and multilateral ties within the Commonwealth community.

The meeting reflects Ghana’s continued commitment to projecting its cultural and diplomatic influence, positioning traditional leaders as active participants in global affairs.
