Kadjebi : Youth demand removal of DCE over death of two footballers

The DCE who is currently out of Kadjebi has been speaking to the media from his hide-out saying “everything is under control"

Residents of Kadjebi in the Oti Region, last Wednesday, occupied the residence of the DCE of the area, Wilson Agbanyo in protest of an alleged killing of two young footballers by a joint National Security and COCOBOD operatives.

At the time of the incident,

Agbanyo was not in the district when the incident happened and upon his return paid homage to the the family of the two late footballers but was attacked by angry youth in the area.

The DCE had to run for his life upon seeing the enraged residents marching towards his residence.

Agbanyo who is currently out of Kadjebi has been speaking to the media from his hide-out saying “Everything is under control.”

The incident followed a joint COCOBOD and National Security operatives’ vehicle which ran over two footballers on a motorbike killing them instantly.

The anti-cocoa smuggling operatives were said to be chasing a taxi loaded with smuggled cocoa beans.

But the youth put the blame at the doorstep of the DCE and are demanding his resignation or his removal or face their wrath.

It is not clear when the DCE will return to his residence and whether or not he will heed the demands of the youth.

Meanwhile, the residents are calling for justice. They say the operations of the National Security in the area have become a threat to them.

Currently, there is a heavy military presence in the Kadjebi district.
