Talented Ghanaian artist, Anthony Jefferson Hanson, also known as ‘Ashenso’, has said his work was inspired by his grandfather, a former assistant headmaster of the Aggrey Memorial Senior High School in the Central Region.

The artist did not want to further his education after Senior High School, prompting him to venture into the art industry tattooing people for free in Takoradi.

Hanson is renowned for his numerous stunning paintings, including portraits of Ghanaian heads of state and recently King Charles.

Appearing on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (27 June), Ashenso said growing up in Takoradi where unique talents emerged, also contributed immensely to his career.

“Art is the only way to make money, everything that is going on here is art, from the way you are talking, the reason why they (listeners) should listen to you, everything is art, people don’t talk naturally lately, art is taking over now, this is our time,” he said.

“I love to use acrylics, it’s kind of difficult because I like things that will challenge me, that is why I think I even fell in love with tattoo, because I won’t understand why I can’t do it, if somebody can do it, I should be able to do it, and I love to paint realism with abstract,” Ashenso said.
