GPL: Mukwala gives Kotoko narrow win over RTU, Samartex humble Karela to go top

Asante Kotoko left it late to beat Real Tamale United 1-0 in the Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Sports stadium on Sunday.

Steven Dese Mukwala converted a second-half penalty in the 80th minute after midfielder Baba Yahaya was fouled in the box.

The Ugandan now takes his goal tally to five in the season.

Asante Kotoko had a goal disallowed for offside in the 19th minute. Midfielder Richmond Lamptey also missed a great opportunity as he failed to hit the back of the net inside 43 minutes.

The victory takes Asante Kotoko to sixth in the table with 26 points – three points behind leaders FC Samartex and one point adrift of Aduana FC, Nsoatreman FC and Berekum Chelsea who are level on 27 points.

Real Tamale United, are second from bottom with 14 points after four consecutive defeats in the League.


Elsewhere, FC Samartex 1996 returned to the top of the Premier League table with a 3-0 win over Karela United, their eight consecutive home win at Nana Nsenkyire Sports complex.

Goals from Emmanuel Mamah, Seidu Musah and Baba Musah sent the Sameraboi Lads to the top with 29 points- 2 points clear Aduana FC who lost one nil to rivals. Nsoatreman at the Nana Kromansah Park. 
Coach Maxwell Konadu’s side had gone three games without a win.

The win takes Nsoatreman FC to the third spot in the League standings – level on 27 points.

In Bechem, Augustine Okrah, Emmanuel Avornyor and Francis Acquah scored in either half as Bechem United smashed ten-man Nations FC 3-0 at Fosu Gyeabuor Park.

Nations FC played with 10-men for over 25 minutes following a red card to Isaac Botcgway in the 72nd minute.

Meanwhile CAF Confederation Cup campaigners Dreams FC came from behind to pick a 1-1 draw against Accra Lions at the theatre of Dreams.
The Still Believe lads still have four outstanding games in the League.

On Saturday, Berekum Chelsea and Bofoakwa Tano shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the Golden City Park while,  Accra Great Olympics and  Hearts of Oak settled for a 0-0 draw at the Baba Yara SportsStadium in the Ga Mantse derby on Friday.
