The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has appealed for urgent logistical support to aid in the evacuation of Ghanaian nationals affected by the ongoing hostilities between Iran and Israel.
The intensifying conflict has raised concerns over the safety of Ghanaians residing in both countries, prompting the Ministry to activate emergency response measures.
Speaking at the Ghana-European Union Partnership Dialogue in Accra, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, stressed the need for a collective and humane response to global migration and conflict-related displacement.
“As we uphold the human rights of migrants and our nationals abroad, we must also protect their dignity, especially in times of crisis,” he said. “In line with the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, we continue to engage the European Union to explore alternatives to detention, and to promote humane reception systems that do not criminalise migration.”
He added, “Access to legal aid, healthcare, decent working conditions and protection during migration must be central to our shared efforts. That is why, as a Ministry, we are prioritising labour mobility agreements to help bring migration under a well-regulated framework.”
“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen,” Ablakwa added, “we also appeal for your support, especially in terms of logistics, as we work to evacuate Ghanaians currently affected by the unfortunate conflict between Iran and Israel.”
The Ministry has assured that it is closely monitoring developments and coordinating with Ghana’s diplomatic missions and international partners to ensure the safety and safe return of all citizens. Ghanaians in affected areas are encouraged to stay in close contact with the nearest embassy or consulate for further assistance.
