Mamprugu Moaduri DCE: I did not sell confiscated illegal mining equipment

Over two hectares of the land have been destroyed by the Chinese, creating craters that pose danger to humans

The district chief executive (DCE) for Mamprugu Moaduri district of the North East Region, Abu Adams, has denied reports that he sold some earth-moving equipment confiscated from Chinese illegal miners.

The North East regional communications officer of the opposition NDC, Mohammed Alhassan Abdul Gafaru, accused the DCE of selling the tipper truck and other equipment belonging to the Chinese after they were flushed out of the area.

The district security council expelled the Chinese illegal miners from the mining site because they lacked the necessary permits to operate.

“When we came and sacked them from here, they left some equipment here, and the team that came and sacked them reported to the regional coordinating council the items that had been left here.

“On the part that I sold an excavator, that is a big lie. I, as an individual, cannot sell an excavator. Later, we got the information that some people went and dismantled some parts of them and went away with those things. The tipper truck that they say we even sold was retrieved from somebody,” Adams said in an interview with the media.

Meanwhile, the North East regional minister, Yidana Zakaria, has also denied the allegation by the NDC communications officer, adding that “they [DISEC] did their part and we were able to seize some of the equipment. Among them were a tipper-truck, a refrigerator, a standby generator, and two Changfan machines.”

“So, what the district chief executive and DISEC were able to retrieve is what they brought to us. So, they are in our custody. We have actually not taken part of those items for anything,” Yidana added.

The regional minister reiterated that REGSEC will continue to flush out illegal miners who are destroying the environement.
