FOCAP to government: it’s time to activate the promises to the creative industry

Speaking to Obomengniibaa Nana Akua on Penpensiwa on AsaasePa on Saturday (10 May), Kojo Preko reminded the government that creatives are watching closely and waiting for action on the many assurances given

Kojo Preko Dankwa, President of the Foundation of Concerned Arts Professionals (FOCAP), says while the launch of the Black Star Experience was a step in the right direction, there are still a number of promises to the creative industry that must be activated without delay.

Speaking to Obomengniibaa Nana Akua on Penpensiwa on AsaasePa on Saturday (10 May), Kojo Preko reminded the government that creatives are watching closely and waiting for action on the many assurances given.

“You said you were going to launch the Black Star Experience in 120 days, and you did — well done,” he said. “But there are low-hanging fruits that can be implemented now, and we are reminding you to get to work on them.”

Kojo Preko mentioned key areas that FOCAP expects immediate action on: tax breaks for creatives with TIN numbers, reduced rent on creative workspaces, proper pension plans through SSNIT for creatives, and a functioning digital terrestrial TV channel for pay-per-view creative events.

“These are not too technical. They are easy to do. The creatives need to feel the impact of your promises,” he added.

FOCAP is calling on the government to stay focused on policies that support the arts, stressing that the Black Star Experience is only one part of a bigger picture.

According to them, if creatives are expected to thrive, then access to funding, tax relief, pensions, and visibility through digital channels must be made a reality — not just campaign talk.

For FOCAP, this is not an attack but a strong reminder: creatives are ready, and the government must match that readiness with results.
