A fire that broke out early Wednesday morning at Flour Mills Ghana Limited, formerly the GHAPOHA yard in Tema, has been brought under control, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The fire, which was first reported at 8:45 AM, began on the third floor of a 10-storey building and was quickly contained to the fifth floor through the swift response of emergency crews. The first fire appliance arrived on the scene within six minutes of the alert.
Firefighters from the Tema Metro, Newtown, Industrial Area fire stations, and the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA) responded with four fire engines and a Turn Table Ladder.
Crews are currently conducting a floor-by-floor sweep to extinguish any remaining embers and prevent reignition.
There have been no reported injuries so far.
The Acting Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong, along with the Tema and Greater Accra Regional Fire Commanders, is at the site overseeing operations and assessing the damage.
Authorities say investigations will begin once the building is declared safe. Further updates are expected.
