Five tips for keeping your braids fresh and fabulous
Whether you’ve opted for box braids, cornrows, or twists, here are some tips to help you maintain your braids and keep them looking their best

1. Wash and condition regularly: While it’s important not to overwash your braids, it’s still essential to keep your scalp clean and healthy. Dilute a gentle shampoo with water and apply it to your scalp, gently massaging it to remove any buildup or dirt. Follow up with a lightweight conditioner to keep your hair moisturised and prevent dryness.
2. Moisturise your scalp: To prevent dryness and itchiness, it’s crucial to moisturise your scalp regularly. Use a lightweight oil such as jojoba, coconut, or argan oil to hydrate your scalp and nourish your hair. Focus on the roots and edges where your natural hair meets the braids to keep your hair healthy and prevent breakage.
4. Avoid excessive heat: While it’s tempting to use heat styling tools to touch up your braids, excessive heat can damage your hair and cause frizz. Instead, opt for heat-free styling methods such as braiding or twisting your braids to refresh your look. If you must use heat, always use a heat protectant spray to minimise damage.
5. Refresh your braids: Over time, your braids may start to look dull or frizzy. To keep them looking fresh, you can use a leave-in conditioner or braid spray to add moisture and shine. You can also redo the edges or front sections of your braids to give them a polished and neat appearance.
