A former managing director at Morgan Stanley, Lucy Quist is one of the few women setting boundaries on the continent and emerging as role model for girls.

Quist who doubles as, the author of “The Bold New Normal,” credits her success to the foresight of her parents and grandparents.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show (ABS) on Thursday (24 October), Quist challenged the notion of being “self-made,” stating that her journey was shaped by the determination of those before her.

Quist is a chartered electrical and electronic engineer with a first-class honours degree from the University of East London and holds an MBA from INSEAD in France. 

Here are five things you probably didnt know about Lucy Quist:

1.First Ghanaian woman to lead a multinational Telco 

Lucy Quist was most recently a managing director at Morgan Stanley serving as the global head of firm (Business & operations) resilience.

She is widely known for being the first Ghanaian woman to lead a multinational telecommunications company as the former CEO of Airtel now AT in Ghana.

She served as CEO of Airtel Ghana Limited now (AT) from 2014 to 2017, during which time she navigated the biases she encountered with resilience.

Quist spent 11-years of her executive career working across Africa mainly in telecommunications.

2. Multiple award winner

Lucy Quist is the recipient of multiple honours by reputable organisations for her exceptional strategic insights, delivery of transformative business results and dedication to growing people within her organisations.

Notable among these are University of East London Alumni Change Maker Award, CIMG Marketing Woman of the year, Telecom CEO of the Year, CSR CEO of the year and the Corporate Leadership Award at the Ghana Legacy Awards. 

3. Member of several boards

She serves on the boards of INSEAD and Mercy Ships. In 2022 she joined the board of Margins ID Group. She is an advisory board member of Yemaachi Biotech and Ethical Apparel Africa.

4. Among top businesswomen driving change in Africa

In 2016 she was featured on the BBCs Power Women series as one of the top businesswomen driving transformational change in Africa.

5. Author

Lucy Quist is the author of the book, ‘The Bold New Normal’ and the convenor of the conference of the same title.

The captures her thoughts about creating a prosperous Africa for its people by its people in a new book.

From her talk on the TEDx stage to this intense read, Lucy clearly spells out the key elements required for the continent to thrive.
