Father of Beyoncé, Mathew Knowles, to speak at “Eat Drink Music Festival” in Ghana
On his first ever visit to Ghana, Knowles will speak to young entrepreneurs about the business side of being creative
The Eat Drink Music Festival, a two-day event, is set to make its much-anticipated debut, featuring a combination of food, drink and music.
The festival has announced that the media mogul Mathew Knowles will be a speaker at “To The Top”, its pre-festival entrepreneurial seminar, which will take place on Friday 27 October 2023 at the Cedi Conference Centre of the University of Ghana, Legon.
Mathew Knowles is a global leader, as a music executive, entrepreneur and lecturer. He is the manager of Destiny’s Child and the father of the musical sensations Beyoncé and Solange.
On his first ever visit to Ghana, Knowles will speak to young entrepreneurs about the business side of being creative.
“As the architect of the careers of many in the music world, Knowles is the perfect person to share best practices with Ghana’s creative community,” says the EDM Festival co-founder Paul Nuamah Donkor (Jayso).
“It is an honour to invite him to open our festival and to hear him cement among creative entrepreneurs the importance of building wealth through our art.
“The business side is often neglected, but it’s the business side that will truly take our creatives To The Top,” said Donkor.
Other big-name speakers at the seminar will be Godwin Tom, general manager of Sony Music Publishing West Africa; the TV personality and actress Joselyn Dumas; the New York-based writer and publicist Richardine Bartee; Derrydean Dadzie, the chief executive of Heritors Lab; and Anthony Dzamefe, the chief executive office of Caveman Watches.
To The Top is an initiative from the festival that seeks to empower dreams, fuel the future and be a catalyst for change by supporting entrepreneurs on their journey to success.
Scale up
The festival has set a target to raise GHC200,000 (approximately US$20,000) to support scaling up five selected entrepreneurs in 2023. A portion of the revenue generated from the festival and generous donations will help the organisers meet their target.
The festival is led by the EDM co-founder Michael Ayenu Mensah (DJ Mensah), a renowned disc jockey and entrepreneur.
Acting as a creative advisor to the team is Nicole Amarteifio, the creator of the web/TV series An African City.

About the Eat Drink Music Festival
Eat Drink Music (EDM Festival), which will take place from 28-29 October 2023 at Untamed Empire in Accra, is a uniquely curated two-day event that combines food, drink and music.
It will showcase a mix of traditional and contemporary music, offer a variety of fashion styles, and support entrepreneurial businesses.
The festival will champion a social cause under the theme “Scaling Up Entrepreneurial Businesses the Eat Drink Music Festival Way”.
This year, the festival will be happening at Untamed Empire in Accra. The organisers expect an estimated daily attendance of between 3,000 and 5,000 guests.
