Kasoa: One person arrested in connection with killing of soldier

Preliminary police investigation has established that the suspect, Benlord Ababio allegedly shot the soldier at Millenium City around Kasoa on Tuesday (30 April 2024)

One person has been arrested in connection with the murder of a soldier at Millenium City, Kasoa, in the Central Region.

Two other soldiers escaped death after a sub chief at Millenium City, a suburb of Kasoa, identified as Benlord Ababio popularity known as ‘Nana Ben’ who is the Gyasehene of Millennium City, reportedly fired live bullets on them right in front of the Police Station.

It followed arguments over a piece of land in the area being claimed by the said chief on one hand and another man said to be a relative of one of the officers, according to reports.

A statement issued by the police on Wednesday (1 May), said  Benlord Ababio is currently in custody assisting police investigation.

“The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man in connection with a shooting incident which occurred at Millenium City, Kasoa, in the Central Region, leading to the death of a soldier.

“Preliminary police investigation has established that the suspect, Benlord Ababio allegedly shot the soldier at Millenium City Kasoa on Tuesday, 30th April 2024, at about 4:20 pm. The victim sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Mother and Child Hospital at Kasoa for medical attention. However, he was later pronounced dead by the medical authorities.”

“Suspect Benlord Ababio is currently in custody assisting police investigation. The leadership of the Police Service is in touch with the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces as investigation into the incident continues,” the police statement said.
