Falling tree leaves tricycle rider critically injured at Kumasi Racecourse

Local authorities have yet to comment on the incident, but traders are calling for immediate action to assess and address the risks posed by other potentially dangerous trees in the vicinity to prevent similar accidents in the future

A tricycle rider is in critical condition after being struck by a falling tree at RaceCourse in Kumasi on Thursday (23 May).

The incident occurred when the tree, reportedly weakened by previous crashes, collapsed, trapping the rider underneath.

Bystanders quickly arrived at the scene to rescue the victim who is yet to be identified. The man in his mid-thirties was promptly transported to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where doctors are racing against time to save his life.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, as the situation caused major traffic disruption on the Kejetia-Adehye Market stretch.

Local authorities have yet to comment on the incident, but traders are calling for immediate action to assess and address the risks posed by other potentially dangerous trees in the vicinity to prevent similar accidents in the future.
