Fake number plate syndicate exposed; DVLA warns against using “Goro Boys”

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has launched a major crackdown on middlemen, popularly known as “Goro Boys,” following the discovery of a criminal network involved in producing and distributing fake vehicle number plates.

Chief Executive of DVLA, Julius Neequaye Kotey, announced that the authority, in collaboration with the National Security Secretariat and other state security agencies, is intensifying enforcement around DVLA premises nationwide.

“The authority will not tolerate the activities of Goro Boys within or around any of our operational areas. Any Goro Boy arrested in connection with these activities will be prosecuted without hesitation,” Mr. Kotey said during a media briefing.

He noted that several suspects have already been apprehended during the investigation and urged members of the public to avoid dealing with middlemen, advising that all DVLA services should be accessed directly through the authority’s official channels.

In addition to these enforcement measures, the DVLA is expanding its operations by opening more offices across the country to improve accessibility and reduce reliance on intermediaries.

The crackdown is part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to ensure transparency, combat fraud, and protect motorists from illegal practices related to vehicle registration and number plates.

“The message is clear: services are available directly from DVLA, and engaging Goro Boys carries serious legal consequences,” Mr. Kotey emphasized.

This development underscores the government’s commitment to curbing fraudulent activities in the transport sector and safeguarding public trust in vehicle licensing services.
