TOR saga: It’s unjust to sack over 600 workers, says Napo
In an interview with Asaase News, Matthew Opoku Prempeh explains why TOR is in its current state and what needs to be done, however, he is also criticising TOR employees for their infamous behavior
Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the energy minister, has noted that there are better ways to deal with the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) saga than sacking over 600 employees who may be blamed for the alleged theft of crude condensate worth US$2.5 million.
Speaking with Beatrice Adu on theĀ Big BulletinĀ on Wednesday (27 April), Opoku Prempeh asked, āDoes that mean that every staff member who works within that process in all areas should be sacked, including management?ā
āThis did not evaporate in a day; you canāt identify which staff caused the loss,” he said.Ā
He explained, however, that the state has given a responsibility to the management of the Tema Oil Refinery to ensure accountability.Ā Ā
āYes, the Tema Oil Refinery has its challenges. But asking us to sack the more than 600, including the management and members of the board, it’s not the way to go,ā he said.
The resurrection of the inefficiencies at Ghana’s oil refinery has caused many to question why the government keeps pumping money into an entity that, according to the latest report from theĀ Finance Ministry, is doing little business.
