Expect lower DStv fees after talks with MultiChoice – Sam George assures Ghanaians

He described the situation as unfair and said the government is committed to pushing for more accountability in the delivery of digital services

Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has pledged to secure a reduction in DStv subscription prices, following growing public discontent over the platform’s affordability.

Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday, 3 July, George said consumers were justifiably frustrated by what they see as high charges that do not reflect Ghana’s current economic realities.

He described the situation as unfair and said the government is committed to pushing for more accountability in the delivery of digital services.

The Minister revealed that the Ministry has already held preliminary engagements with DStv’s local representatives, focusing on affordability, value for money, and service quality. A follow-up meeting involving both the Ghanaian and South African management teams of MultiChoice—the parent company of DStv—is scheduled for Friday.

“This engagement reflects our commitment to regulatory accountability and our resolve to ensure that digital services in Ghana remain fair, accessible and responsive,” he said.

Mr George also vowed to leave the meeting with a firm agreement on lowering subscription fees, calling it a “solemn promise” to Ghanaians.

The outcome of the talks is expected to be shared with the public in the coming days.
